My name is Mason Vega. Fifteen years old. JV equipment manager. I carry the water, wash the towels, and fill the ball rack for a varsity team that barely knows my name. Two weeks ago I was a nobody. Yesterday I became a thief in front of every teammate I ever respected.

Here's what they saw: Derek, the senior captain, rips his white-and-gold "CROSS 11" jersey out of my open gym bag and holds it over his head. Ben — Derek's right hand, the boy who "found" it — stands by the door looking anywhere but at me. The locker room erupts. Then it goes cold. Nobody laughs at a thief.

Here's what they didn't see. Derek never folds his own gear. That jersey was folded into perfect thirds inside my bag — staged, not stolen. And while every phone in the room pointed at me, my phone was already lit in my hand. Screen angled away. Waiting.
