Friday at 5:02, the hallway emptied the way hallways empty when nobody wants to be a witness. My case was cracked along the lower bout. The strings never came back right. I carried the pieces to my mom's car with my hood up while the drizzle soaked through the sticker from my old middle school program.

I didn't cry until I got home. Then I couldn't stop.
