Carla's palm slammed the table so hard the work gloves jumped. Twelve tired crew members stopped mid-bite and turned.
I'm Maria Ramos. Fifteen years on that press, zero safety violations. And yesterday, a near-miss I wasn't even near.
What she didn't know: four days before that incident, I filed grievance #2037 about a faulty guard. The original vanished from the logbook.
So I kept the carbon copy.
She thought she'd backed me into a corner. She didn't see the folder I'd been holding since start of shift.
I set it down and opened it. Her own signature sat there as receiving supervisor. Beside it, in red pencil, the steward's note: "Never entered in logbook."
